ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry expressed his anger over implementing the ad-hoc system profusely throughout the country while hearing the load shedding case on Thursday, Geo News reported.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) was hearing the load shedding case here today. During today’s proceedings, lawyer Azhar Siddique told the bench that National Electronic Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has an acting chairman who is the relative of Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

On this, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said that the chairmen of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) are also on ad-hoc basis.

The lawyer representing NEPRA responded that the matter will be solved now as the case has been taken up by the court. On this, the CJ reprimanded the counsel and remarked that what the government is doing if the courts have to undertake its responsibilities.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, then, addressed Attorney General Munir A Malik and asked him why the government is running the country on ad-hoc system. In response, the Attorney General told the bench that many posts fell vacant after the verdict of Khawaja Asif case, therefore, the appointment process on those positions is underway through commission.
