Misuse of funds: CEC directs Khan’s counsel to submit objections in writing
ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retired) Sardar Muhammad Raza on Monday directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s counsel to submit any objections in writing within one week.

A full bench of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) headed by the CEC heard the petition today, filed earlier by Akbar S Babar, PTI’s co-founder and former information secretary.

He had filed a petition in the ECP alleging financial corruption in handling the party funds and had shared some documents with the ECP.

On February 18, the ECP issued notices to PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Secretary General Jehangir Tareen over the petition.

Both Khan and Tareen had been asked to appear in person or through their lawyers before the ECP today.

The PTI has already denied these charges and claimed that there is a proper system of check and balance to stem chances of irregularities.
