Updated at: 0227 PST,  Friday, January 08, 2010
Holbrooke rules out role in Indo-Pak mediation WASHINGTON: US special representative to Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke said he is not trying to effect mediation between Pakistan and India, Geo News reported Thursday night.

He said his country will extend every kind of assistance to Pakistan over issues relating power and water, adding

He said he is not ready to acknowledge that the situation in Pakistan has gone worse.

He went on to say that the leadership of Al-Qaeda is present in the Pak-Afghan border area.

Secretary Agriculture will soon visit Pakistan, the US official informed.

“In Pakistan, he will call on leadership, continue dialogue, and look for ways we can emphasise Pakistan assistance and address concerns,” a spokesman for Mr Holbrooke’s office told Foreign Policy. In Afghanistan, he will focus on training Afghan national security forces.
