TOKYO: A huge reproduction of a Vincent van Gogh self-portrait made of over 2,000 polo shirts is now on display at the Marunouchi Building near Tokyo Station.
The mosaic, measuring about 10 by 10 meters, is based on the Dutch master painter's 1889 self-portrait. A total of 2,070 polo shirts in 24 different colors have been used to achieve the delicate gradation of the original painting.
The unique piece was created by Tokyo-based apparel maker Onward Kashiyama Co. as part of its campaign to incorporate colors of paintings into clothing designs, and will be on public display on the ground floor of the Marunouchi Building through Sunday.
