DHAKA: Captain Angelo Mathews led from the front, claiming 3-21, while Thisara Perera hit a career-best 80 not out to help Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 13 runs in the first one-day international at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.
Bangladesh was bowled out for 167 in response to Sri Lanka´s 180. Shamsur Rahman scored 62 while Mominul Haque hit 44 for Bangladesh. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim made 27, but his dismissal ended Bangladesh´s hopes of pulling off a thrilling victory.
Sachitra Senanayeke ended with 2-33 while Lasith Malinga and Thisara Perera took one wicket apiece.
Earlier, Thisara Perera´s 80 not out helped Sri Lanka recover from a precarious 67-8. Senanayeke added 82 with Perera for the ninth wicket.
Shakib Al Hasan, debutant Arafat Sunny and Rubel Hossain picked up two wickets apiece. (AP)
