DHAKA: Sri Lanka piled up a huge total of 289 for six in the second One-day International against Bangladesh here at the Shere Bangla National Stadium Mirpur on Thursday.

Veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara was the main architect of Sri Lanka innings who led the recovery at first before completely dominating the Bangladesh bowling.

He made 128 off 115 balls after reaching his 17th ODI century in 102 deliveries.

The visitors’ captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and decided to bat first but Sri Lanka’s start was not a good one as they lost three wickets for 62.

However, Sri Lanka have done well to put up a competitive total on the board setting a difficult target of 290 for the hosts who were already defeated by 13 runs in the first ODI of the three-match series.

Sangakkara and Priyanjan steadied the innings with a solid 114-run stand. The latter took his time to settle down but eventually found his touch and got his second ODI fifty.

Then Sangakkara was joined by his captain Mathews with whom he added a quickfire 83. Mathews scored a brisk fifty.

Bangladeshi bowling was once again led by the spinners, who were economical but the bowlers were not supported well in the field as around five catches were dropped.

Rubel Hossain was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh taking three wickets for 76.
