KARACHI: Mayor Karachi and veteran MQM leader Waseem Akhtar said on Thursday that he stands with the party`s Pakistan chapter.

Speaking in Geo News` show, Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, Akhtar explicitly said, “I am affiliated with MQM-Pakistan and hence I will toe their policy,” further adding, “anyone who thinks that he can give me instructions, then I can only say that he is wrong.”

Mayor Karachi said that he should be given the space to work along with the MPA and MNAs of the MQM.

“They are elected people, they live in Pakistan and I want to work with them. I need them as they were voted by the masses.”

Taking a subtle jibe at the rival faction, he said that those who are creating disturbances, people are seeing their faces and now knows well who are stopping him from working for the city.

MQM-Pakistan and MQM-London workers came face to face during a cleanup drive in the city’s Shah Faisal Colony area on Thursday.

The workers from the two factions had a confrontation during the cleanup drive initiated by Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar, who has vowed to prioritize Karachi’s cleanup and repairing of roads in his 100-day plan for the city.
