Another mass robbery in Karachi, 40 shops looted

KARACHI: In another mass heist at M A Jinnah road robbers took away cash and valuables worth Rs4 million from 40 shops.

Robbers broke into the shops at 2:00 am  at the Jami Centre early Thursday morning.

Four unidentified men first held the watchman hostage and then broke into the shops, a shopkeeper told Geo News.

"We were shocked to see our shops looted when we arrived at work this morning," a shopkeeper said adding that they did not have CCTV cameras installed inside the market.

Police is investigating the case.

Such mass heists have been on the rise and similar incidents have occurred in Urdu Bazaar, Plaza and Empress Market, all situated in the old city area.

Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested the ringleader of a dacoit group involved in a number of heists. Weapons and stolen goods were also recovered from his possession.

According to a statement given by police in Al-Falah jurisdiction, the arrested man identified as Rehan confessed to being the head of a twelve man a group involved in a number of thefts at different markets in the early hours by entering into shops through breaking locks.
