KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan chief Dr. Farooq Sattar on Thursday reacted to the arrest and manhandling of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers in Islamabad, saying that it was not appropriate  to use force against the political party activists.

MQM Pakistan extended its support to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as its chief urged the government to demonstrate political maturity and tolerance. "The incident of torture of PTI activists by the law enforcement in Islamabad is extremely condemnable," said Farooq Sattar.

He warned the government that the use of force on political activists could be a dangerous precedent for the political and democratic process in the country.

"Every Pakistani protests against the baton-charge on women in the federal capital today," the MQM Pakistan leader added.

Sattar urged the government to take serious notice of it and to release the arrested PTI workers.

On Thursday evening, police cracked down on a convention of the PTI's youth wing in Islamabad and arrested 120 members of Insaf Student Federation (ISF) and other party workers.

Video footage showed police and Frontier Constabulary personnel baton-charging and taking away PTI workers in a bus from the venue of the convention.

A scuffle also broke out between the law enforcers and senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who argued with the personnel for demanding an explanation for the arrests.

Qureshi alleged PTI workers, including women workers, had been attacked by the police at the youth convention organised by the party.
