Documents reveal rampant misuse of funds by NAB deputy chairman

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Imtiaz Tajwar, against whom the Federal Investigation Agency has been conducting an inquiry over alleged financial irregularities, has been found involved in rampant misuse of discretionary funds worth over Rs6 million, documents seen by Geo News revealed Friday.

Tajwar is currently the deputy chairman NAB and faces an inquiry over misuse of funds worth Rs6,11,5000. NADRA documents available with Geo News show that Tajwar spent these funds while he served as the acting chairman of Nadra in 2014-15.

The official spent Rs280,000 on medicines in just one year. The funds were also squandered on purchasing two iPhones along with accessories, and goats for offering sacrifice.

Interestingly, the tax payers' money was also spent for purchasing contraceptives, revealed the documents. He also paid off Rs1.5 lac for his membership of the Islamabad Club.

Besides all this, Imtiaz Tajwar also spent the funds on purchase of perfumes, cosmetics, acquisition of gas connection, and to pay bills for trying different cuisines at hotels.

The official of NAB, an institution that aims to end graft in country and bring back looted public wealth, is himself facing the inquiry inflicting huge financial loss to the national exchequer.

The FIA has been holding inquiry against Imtiaz Tajwar upon directives by the prime minister.

It was further revealed that Tajwar has so far returned Rs1 million, however, the inquiry against him is still ongoing.
