KARACHI: At least three people were killed and two injured on Thursday when a trailer overturned near Qayyumbad in Thursday afternoon.

DIG Traffic Asif Ijaz Shaikh said it is likely the vehicle's tire burst causing it to topple over.

Speaking to Geo News, Shaikh added that he will be writing to the provincial government to prohibit 10-wheeler trailers plying on the city's roads, adding that three alternate routes are present for heavy traffic but these vehicles end up on roads for regular traffic causing distress for private vehicles.

Additionally, the identities of the deceased were confirmed as Khan Momin, Robin and an unidentified woman who is said to be begging on the street at the time. Among the injured are Ranyan aged 3 and Rizon aged 6 who were travelling on the road with their father Robin who lost his life.

The driver of the trailer fled the scene of the accident. Police are trying to apprehend the absconding driver.
