LEAs establish joint check posts on M1, M2 motorways

To improve security and surveillance, law enforcement agencies have established joint check posts on M1 and M2 motorways, according to ISPR.

The joint check posts have been established by Pakistan Army, Pakistan Rangers Punjab and the police.  M1 motorway, which is 155 kilometres long, connects Peshwar to Rawalpindi and Islamabad while M2, which is 375 km, connects Lahore to the twin cities. M2, located entirely in Punjab, passes through Sheikhupura, Salem, Kot Sarwar, Kallar Kahar, Balksar, Chakri, Khanqah before reaching Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The measure has been taken as part of Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, a nationwide operation launched on February 22 with the aim to eliminate residual and latent threat of terrorism from Pakistan.

The operation also includes broad-spectrum security and counter-terrorism operations in Punjab, and continuation of ongoing operations across the country.

Earlier, Punjab Rangers had asked the public to “assist” them in operations across the province and report any suspicious activities across the province.
