London Police release money seized from party offices, claims MQM-London

LONDON: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London on Thursday claimed the London Metropolitan Police have released the money seized from the MQM chief's residence and party offices in 2012.

The London Metropolitan Police, in raids conducted at London offices of the MQM in 2012 and 2013, had seized around £400,000, after which they had lodged a case against MQM founder and his aides on charges of money-laundering.

The case pertained to over half a million pounds recovered from MQM chief's house, MQM's international secretariat, Sarfraz Merchant's flat, Tariq Mir’s house, Iftikhar Quraishi's house, and from the vehicle of Sarfraz Ahmed.

A spokesman for MQM-London has now claimed that the funds seized from MQM properties in London have been released. He added the money seized from the residence of party founder has also been released.

The Scotland Yard, during the course of the investigations, had said that it had “credible evidence that the MQM received funds from the Indian government sources and broke the electoral laws of Pakistan and the UK”.

The charges were dropped and the case was withdrawn in October 2016 on the basis of non-provision of evidence.
