KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly unanimously approved on Monday to change the names of two separate universities in Karachi and Hyderabad previously named after the founder of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

The subject of the bill demanded that the university campuses be renamed after Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah and renowned humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi.

The bill was presented by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Nisar Khuhro.

During the session chaired by Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, the House agreed to change the name of the university in Karachi after Abdul Sattar Edhi and the one in Hyderabad after Mohatarma Fatima Jinnah.

Members of the MQM-Pakistan, which has parted ways with the party's founder and former leaders in London, supported the bill presented for voting.

MQM-Pakistan leader Faisal Sabzwari while addressing the House said that the governments are remembered on the basis of actions and not speeches.

“Actions must speak louder than words,” said Sabzwari addressing the Assembly speaker.

He also said that public sector places should not be associated with people who are in any way against Pakistan’s integrity.
