KARACHI: Matters in the school education department remain unsorted, while retired employees are returned sans required responses on pensions as no director school education has taken charge in the office since the last two years.

Although a director schools for secondary education has recently been appointed after two years, the office remains unused as the new official refuses to take charge. The education department had appointed the school education (primary) director, Riaz Siddiqui, on the position, but he has not taken charge yet.

Office of school education director remains unused, hence clean, since last two years.

Above all, affairs in the department are going haywire also because School Education Secretary Abdul Aziz Uqaili has been on holidays and insists on running the department through Whatsapp.

The absence of a proper incharge in the office has piled electricity dues on the department, forcing the authorities concerned to suspend power supply to the office. According to officials of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), the electricity dues sum up to Rs50 million. KDA has suspended the electricity as the building where the office is situated — Civic Centre in Karachi — comes under the ambit of the authority. The KDA officials added electricity to the office would not be restored unless the dues are paid. This is the reason why school education department officials, who are willing to work and attend office, were seen struggling to work under the light of their mobile phone torches. However, these officers cannot manage to do much under the torchlight as the computer systems where most of the data is saved remain shut due to unavailability of electricity.
