KARACHI: At least five suspected criminals were killed Friday in separate operations by police and Rangers personnel in different parts of Karachi.
According to Irfan Bahadur, Senior Superintendent of the Police's Anti-Car Lifting Cell, police acted on information and carried out an operation near Toor Bangash Chowki in Orangi Town.
Two wanted criminals, Moin Aga Khani and Pathan, were killed in a resulting exchange of gunfire while another suspect, Imtiaz Tanoli alias Mama managed to escape, he said.
The suspects are said to be wanted for committing several crimes in the city.
Meanwhile, Rangers personnel carried out a separate raid in Lyari's Rexer Lane after receiving information of the presence of wanted criminals in the area.
According to a Rangers spokesman, three wanted criminals were killed in retaliatory fire after the suspects opened fire on the forces in an attempt to escape.
The three, identified as Mohammad Hassam, Azhar alias Buddha, and Waseem Ahmad, were said to be linked to Lyari's Baba Ladla gang and were involved in 23 different cases of murder, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
The criminals had been running their network for over four years, said the Rangers spokesman.
