SYDNEY: The players development squad of Lahore Qalandars reached Australia early Wednesday morning to participate in the five-team Quinn Series Cup.

Led by Sohail Akhtar, the team arrived at Sydney International Airport after a long-haul flight of 13 hours.

Soon after arriving the players, instead of resting, went to Bondi beach to do some refreshing drills and get acclimatised.

“We didn’t want players to sleep in the day as they were coming from different time zones, that’s why we planned this activity so that they can sleep at the [right] time and stay fresh for cricket the next day,” said Lahore Qalandars Director Cricket Operations Aaqib Javed.

Qalandars will play a practice match against Paramatta DCCXI on Thursday under the lights. The five-team Quinn series will be played from November 5 to 9 with teams from Sydney Thunders, Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes and Auckland Aces also taking part in the tournament.

Aaqib said that the Qalandars team is comprised of players who were spotted during the countrywide development programme trials and this is a life-time opportunity for them.

“There’s a lot in offering for these players. They can earn contracts here like Sohail Akhtar and Haris Rauf did previously, they can even prove themselves as a candidate for PSL,” he added.
