LAHORE: Railway traffic remained affected for a fourth day on Thursday after more than eight bogies of a freight train derailed near Rahim Yar Khan on April 1.

After trains faced delays in departure and arrival, Pakistan Railways is cancelling some train services such as the Karakoram Express from Lahore to Karachi. A day earlier, Karachi Express was also cancelled.

Railways officials said that a train service will be cancelled daily till schedules return to normal and there are no further delays.

The Business Express departed Lahore for Karachi after a delay of 20 hours. Passengers who were scheduled to take the Karakoram Express departed for Karachi on the Business Express.

Railway traffic had suspended on Monday on up and down tracks after 13 bogies of a freight train derailed near Rahim Yar Khan. The suspension caused a delay in arrival and departure of trains due to repair work and schedules are still affected.

Sources in the Pakistan Railways said, "The railways does not have any reserve engines or bogies due to the launch of new train services. If new trains had not been launched then trains could have been run on reserve engines and bogies."

The sources further advised Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid to not launch new trains and said, "Had new trains not been launched then reserve engines and bogies could have been used to return the schedule to normal and avoid delays."
