KARACHI: Nadeem Omar, a former member of Pakistan Cricket Board's Body of Governors on Friday came in support of Sarfaraz Ahmed, hours after he was sacked as Pakistan team’s captain.

“Sacking of Sarfaraz Ahmed from all the format is very shocking news, this is unprecedentedly unfair and you don’t see such decisions in Cricketing world when you see that captain of a top ranked team is removed after one bad series,” he said.

“He has won 11 consecutive series and made Pakistan a top ranked T20 side. Sarfaraz has been leading since U19 days and he has won several laurels for Pakistan. Even in ODIs, we were ranked amongst lowest ranking teams when he was made captain and Pakistan was even struggling to qualify for the world cup directly,” Omar mentioned.

Sarfaraz also captains Omar’s owned Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League and led the franchise to its maiden title win in 4th edition after finishing runner-up twice in the past.

Nadeem Omar hinted that Sarfaraz wasn’t fully empowered and was handcuffed as Pakistan’s captain.

“How can you remove a captain who has made you T20I’s top team and won the Champions’ Trophy for only a bad series,” he questioned.

“I think it is unfair and unfortunate and I am afraid that Pakistan will suffer its consequences. I think that Sarfaraz should be reinstated immediately, at least in white-ball cricket,” he concluded.
