Sonya Hussain reveals why she turned down Mehwish's role in ‘Mere Paas Tum Ho’

Pakistani actress Sonya Hussain in a recent interview revealed that why she had turned down the role of Ayeza Khan in drama serial Mere Paas Tum Ho.

Talking to Iffat Omar on her chat show Say It All, the actress unveiled why she decided to reach such a decision.

"I have a problem when it comes to such roles actually. There is no acceptance of women in our society as it is, I didn't want to play a role that would perpetuate more issues,” said the Ishq Zahe-e-Naseeb actress.

She added, "While I know it's a story and there are actors who play these characters, I can't see women characterised in such a negative light. I just couldn't accept the role."

When asked by show host Iffat if she regretted making the decision specially after the show became such a massive hit, Sonya said, "Not at all. I took the decision after putting in a lot of thought behind it. I just couldn't accept it,".

Earlier, it was revealed that the role of Mehwish (played by Ayeza Khan) in Mere Paas Tum Ho was offered to Sonya Hussain, which she had rejected due to her personal views.

Meanwhile, Ayeza has drawn immense flak for her portrayal of an infidel woman who is focused on material gains and other worldly desires in the controversial drama serial.
