Doctors urge nation to unite and exercise caution against coronavirus

Pakistan’s renowned doctors urged the nation on Friday to unite in the fight against the coronavirus threat, which has claimed nine lives and infected more than 1,200 people in the country so far.
Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation's (SIUT) Dr Adeeb Rizvi spoke on Geo Pakistan today, where he said that it is imperative to use preventive measures against the virus.
He noted that doctors are on the frontline in this fight and that the entire world is searching for its treatment.
“We are making endeavours at our end and cooperating with the government as well,” he said.
The SIUT founder said that doctors and hospital staff need protective kits for treating coronavirus patients, which should be mandatory on the authorities to provide.
Dr Abdul Bari Khan said on the programme that the virus is not airborne and is transmitted through human contact.
He said that it is better to remain in isolation as Pakistan’s healthcare system is poor compared to other countries.
Member of the American Board of Medicine Dr Ali Raza said that it is too early to gauge how dangerous the coronavirus is.
He said that if a patient is coughing more than usual and has high temperature, then a doctor should be consulted.
“If an elderly person is coughing and running a high fever then he should be tested,” said the doctor.
