  • Ramiz Raja has already appointed Matthew Hayden, Vernon Philander as coaches for T20 World Cup.
  • Pakistan may change fielding coach ahead of T20 World Cup, say sources.
  • The PCB management is also expected to change fielding coach Abdul Majeed ahead of the mega event.

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may include Saqlain Mushtaq in the coaches' panel for the ICC T20 World Cup along with two other foreign consultants, according to Geo News sources.

Newly-elected PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja a day ago had announced to induct former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and former South African all-rounder Vernon Philander as coaches for the upcoming tournament.

Sources told the TV channel that the PCB will soon announce the name of a local coach for the national squad and it is likely that Saqlain will be chosen for the job.

Sources said permanent coaches for the national squad will be announced after the T20 World Cup. The PCB management is expected to change the fielding coach, Abdul Majeed, for the T20 World Cup, revealed a source.

The PCB has already appointed Drix Simon as the national squad's strength and conditioning coach.

They added that the PCB management was mulling over National High Performance Centre's Wicketkeeping and Fielding Coach Atiq uz Zaman for a role with the national squad as well.

‘Aggression’

On Monday, while briefing the media about his vision for Pakistan cricket, Ramiz Raja said new coaches will give “aggression” to the cricket team.

"Hayden is Australian, I feel he can bring some aggression into the team. He has World Cup experience, he was a world class player," Raja had told reporters.

"An Australian occupying the dressing room will have a lot of benefits.... This Pakistan team can win the World Cup, it just needs an improvement of 10%."

"One of my key focuses will be to help introduce in the Pakistan men's cricket team the same culture, mindset, attitude and approach that once made Pakistan one of the most feared cricket playing nations," Raja had said..

Ramiz Raja vows to reset direction

A day earlier, the PCB Board of Governors elected Ramiz Raja as the new chairman of the board. Shortly after his election, Raja addressed the PCB BoG after his election to the chairman post.

"I am thankful to all of you for electing me as the PCB chairman and look forward to working with you to ensure Pakistan cricket continues to thrive and grow stronger, both on and off-the-field," he had said.

"One of my key focuses will be to help introduce in the Pakistan men’s cricket team the same culture, mind-set, attitude and approach that once made Pakistan one of the most feared cricket playing nations," he had said.

"As an organisation, we all need to get behind the national team and provide them the desired assistance and support so that they can produce that brand of cricket, which the fans also expect from them each time they step on to the field of play.

"Obviously, as a former cricketer, my other priority will be to look into the welfare of our past and present cricketers. The game has and will always be about the cricketers and, as such, they deserve more recognition and respect from their parent institution," he added.
