What was Imran Khan's last public engagement as prime minister?

ISLAMABAD: PTI Chairman Imran Khan — who became the first prime minister of Pakistan to be ousted through a no-confidence motion — addressed the Shaukat Khanum Fundraising Ceremony in Islamabad as his last public engagement on Saturday.

During the ceremony, the ex-prime minister asked the private sector to come forward and join hands with the government in providing free and low-cost health facilities to the masses.

He said that Pakistan was moving toward the basic principles of the "Riyasat-e-Madinah" — including humanity, justice and self-respect, and soon, it would be one of the great nations.

The premier said that the welfare of the weak segment of society is the responsibility of the state and the PTI-led government had introduced health cards to provide health coverage to the people.

He said that every family would be able to get free treatment for up to one million rupees through the health universal card.

The ex-prime minister said health coverage had been provided to every citizen for three years, and this "Sehat Card" initiative would be helpful to increase the scope of private hospitals in the country.

Khan said Pakistan is one of the most philanthropic nations in the world and it has so far donated Rs63 billion to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital for free treatment of cancer patients.

The former premier said cancer is a dangerous disease, and its treatment is very expensive, so more hospitals are needed in the country.
