Conor McGregor has disclosed that on New Year's Day, he will reveal the opponent he will be facing as well as the date of his return to the Octagon.

The Irishman's final bout in the UFC occurred when he was defeated by Dustin Poirier in their trilogy match at UFC 264 back in 2021 due to a devastating leg injury.

McGregor, though, has resumed his full-time training regimen and is hoping to make a comeback to the Octagon in the early months of 2019.

Rumours have it that he will compete against Michael Chandler in the main event of the historic UFC 300 card, which is scheduled for 2024.

The Irishman, who goes by X now on Twitter, posted the following: "I will be announcing my fight date and opponent on New Years Day, 2024."

The tweet was sent just a few days after McGregor expressed his lack of patience with the UFC while attending the Day of Reckoning boxing event in Saudi Arabia.

McGregor declared that he will return to boxing after fruitless conversations regarding his return with Dana White's organisation.

"Get me back in there. Get the Mac back in there." McGregor told talkSPORT on December 23. "The Mac has loads to offer and loads to deliver."

"They're talking Manny (Pacquiao) here in Saudi, the lads in the UFC aren't really talking anything, the lads here talking Manny the lads in the UFC aren't really talking anything. So I'm sitting here as usual."
