Amy Poehler candidly discussed her sentiments while filming the highly anticipated sequel to 2015’s Inside Out.
While Amy portrayed the relatable and blissful character of Joy, she reflected the tons of emotions she got to feel while filming the movie.
“When I get to work on it, it's so deep. Because it's like talking to your inner child, talking to you as a parent, talking to you as yourself, talking to the future version of you”, the actress told PEOPLE magazine.
She also highlighted experiencing personal realizations when filming a scene about pre-teens going through emotions that everyone finds relatable, “It's really satisfying to do it”, said Amy.
“That feeling of, ‘Who am I? How should I act?’ The inner feeling of, ‘What should I be worried about? What should I let go of? How do I take care of myself?’ We can all relate to that, the Newton, Massachusetts native added.
The first installment focused on an eleven-year-old Riley who moved from San Francisco and struggles to cope with the change. The latest installment will feature a thirteen-year-old Riley facing the inevitability of puberty.
Inside Out included Joy (Amy), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale) and Disgust (Liza Lapira). But this time around there is also an introduction of Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser), Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and Nostalgia (June Squibb) in Inside Out 2.
“The stuff they did in this next film is so good. I love the research that they did where anxiety is a motivator. So at first, Joy is like, ‘I like you! Anxiety's fun!’”, Amy said for the upcoming film.
The comedy film is slated for release on June 14th 2024.
