Ed Sheeran explains why he gave away ‘Love Yourself’ to Justin Bieber

Ed Sheeran disclosed how he came to give his hit track Love Yourself to Justin Bieber, before performing it at Hard Rock Live.

The Shape Of You crooner revealed that the song he wrote while preparing for his third studio album Divide, was later passed on to Justin because of the underwhelming response from his friend and family.

He shared, “This is a song when I was writing Divide I was writing a lot of songs about a lot of different things, and I wrote this song and honestly, I played it to people and they went, ‘Meh’”, according to Page Six.

However, friend’s dissaproval of the tune led the 33-year-old to give away the song to the Baby singer, which turned him into an overnight sensation.

Explaining that when he played for the Canadian singer after he asked it for his repertoire, he added, “I went, ‘Cool, have it,’ and then it got very big”, he chuckled.

The 30-year-old's 2015's music release became famous for weeks, leading in Billboard Hot 100 Year-End list, making him the youngest artist in history to ever top the charts with a No. 1 sold single from this publication.

Nonetheless, to the Grammy winner’s surprise, the song’s success prompted Sheeran’s friend to ask why he had let go of the tune in the first place.

“You told me it wasn’t good”, Sheeran laughed.
