MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians routed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 58 runs in Match 37 of IPL6 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

Bangalore suffered their third defeat on the road while Mumbai jumped to fourth position in the table after their fifth win.

Chasing a target of 195, Bangalore never got going as Mumbai Indians bowled to a plan to stifle the free-scoring batsmen.

Dilshan and Gayle departed in successive over with the dismissal of the record-breaking West Indian for 18 off 20 balls setting off wild celebrations.

Gayle hammered a six and two boundaries in his 18 off 20 balls but struggled against the short pitched stuff delivered by Johnson in particular.

Rayudu held a brilliant catch on the boundary to dismiss Gayle with Harbhajan sparking the celebrations with a Gangnam style Banghra dance.

The double strike by Kulkarni to dismiss Kohli and AB de Villiers caught behind by Dinesh Karthik in the eighth virtually sounded the death knell for Bangalore.

Rampaul (23) and Vinay Kumar (26) figured in an unfinished eighth wicket stand of 51 but only succeeded in delaying the inevitable.

Dhawal Kulkarni playing his first match of the season was a revelation having the best return of 3 for 19 while Harbhajan and Smith claimed two wickets apiece.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians rattled up a formidable 194 for seven after opting to bat first.

Mumbai were given a flying start by Tendulkar who smashed five boundaries in his 13-ball 23.

Their innings gathered momentum as Smith cracked three sixes and four boundaires in his 36-ball 50.

Skipper Sharma was run out following a mix up with Karthik who made amends by cracking 43 off 33 balls with three boundaries and a six.

Bangalore pegged them back by grabbing three wickets in one over with some brilliant fielding including that of Pollard who smashes three sixes and two boundaries in his 16-ball 34.

Some lusty blows from Harbhajan (16) boosted their final total.
