Frankenstein is a well-known undead creature, striking terror in hearts, and a product of an experiment gone wrong.
But Guillermo del Toro, the director of the film about the character, has said his version is totally different.
At Cannes, he opened up about his Netflix film, saying, “Somebody asked me the other day, does it have really scary scenes?”
He continued, “For the first time, I considered that. It’s an emotional story for me. It’s as personal as anything.”
“I’m asking a question about being a father, being a son… I’m not doing a horror movie — ever. I’m not trying to do that," the director added.
Along with him was Alexandre Desplat, the award-winning composer, who is also working on the film with him.
He said, “Guillermo’s cinema is very lyrical, and my music is rather lyrical too. So I think the music of ‘Frankenstein’ will be something very lyrical and emotional… I’m not trying to write horrific music.”
Frankenstein has Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth in the cast. It will be released in November 2025.
