Prince William and Prince Harry still has a chance to reunite at a planned memorial marking 30 years since Princess Diana’s death.
However, sources claim that that their wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s rift could become a hurdle in the reunion of the royal feuding brothers.
The memorial is expected to take place in 2027, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also expected to visit the UK for the Invictus Games.
While King Charles and the former Princess of Wales’ sons are being encouraged by family members to reunite for the tribute, sources claim that getting Kate and Meghan in the same room is “near impossible” unless it’s a formal event like a funeral.
The Duke of Sussex’s recent BBC interview in which he said that he is up for a reconciliation but does not regret leaving the royal family also has created obstacles for him to come back.
“Both brothers idolised their mother, but right now, it seems unlikely that they will want to be in the same place,” the insider told Heat Magazine.
“And getting Kate and Meghan together for something other than a funeral is pretty much impossible,” they added.
“On top of all that, everyone is also mindful that if such a meeting did take place, it shouldn’t overshadow them remembering Princess Diana.
“Olive branches have been extended at points, but now there’s a feeling that far too much has been said and done to come back from.”
The source continued, “It’s now about trying to move on with a stiff upper lip. It would be a rare opportunity for William and Harry to come together in remembrance of the mother who tried so hard to keep them close.
“Everyone is still hoping that Diana could be the key to bringing them back together, even though she is no longer with us.”
