Madonna refused to confirm or deny whether Kylie Minogue features on her upcoming album Confessions II, and she did it with the kind of smirk that suggests the answer might well be yes.
The two pop icons appeared together on BBC's The Graham Norton Show, airing Friday, 26 June, when host Graham Norton put them both on the spot.
"There are rumours that Kylie is on Confessions II. Is this you confirming that rumor?" he asked Madonna directly. The 67-year-old replied that it was her "job to be mysterious."
Minogue, 58, let out a laugh and observed that Madonna is "good at deflecting", which, as non-denials go, is quite the contribution.
The appearance brought together two of pop's most enduring figures, and the chemistry between them was unmistakable.
The pair reflected on their joint moment during Madonna's Celebration Tour show in Los Angeles in May 2024, where they performed Minogue's hit Can't Get You Out of My Head together.
"What a moment. I absolutely loved that," Minogue said.
Minogue had spoken to PEOPLE in December about the possibility of a studio collaboration, saying at the time that no discussion had taken place, but leaving the door wide open.
"Obviously I would," she said of working with Madonna.
"So, there's been no discussion, but if it were to happen, that would be great." A lot has apparently happened since December.
Confessions II, due on 3 July, is shaping up to be a significant moment for Madonna.
Elsewhere in the Norton interview, she was shown working in the studio and reflected on her creative process.
"It's kind of like I get possessed. The ideas come when I don't try too hard," she said. She also described the track One Step Away as coming "from the soul."
Whether or not Minogue's voice turns up on 3 July remains, for now, deliciously unconfirmed.
