Madonna’s next album won’t just feature new music–it will tell a deeply personal family story.

The Queen of Pop has revealed that her daughter, Laurdes “Lola” Leon, played a key role in Confession II, but only after years of avoiding any collaboration that might fuel claims of nepotism.

“She approached me," Madonna shared during an interview with BBC Radio 1. "She's been very reticent to work with me, she doesn't want to be perceived as my daughter taking advantage of her privilege."

While Leon finally came knocking, it was not just about making music–it was about mending their relationship.

“She came to me and said, ‘Let's write a song together. I think it'll be a very healing experience.'”

Madonna did not hesitate.

“You say what you want to say, and I'll say exactly what I want to say,” she recalled, adding that she was “so happy” her daughter made the first move.

The pop icon also had no problem giving credit where it’s due.

“She has a much better voice than I do,” Madonna said. “She didn't ask for this…”

The singer explained that Leon spent much of her teenage years wrestling with what Graham Norton described as the “weird secondhand fame” of growing up as Madonna’s daughter.

According to Madonna, songwriting became the bridge that helped them move forward.

With Confession II arriving on July 3, fans won’t just hear a collaboration between mother and daughter–they will hear the soundtrack to a relationship rebuilt, one honest lyric at a time.
