Katie Boulter crashes out in Wimbledon first round as British struggles continue

Katie Boulter was knocked out of Wimbledon after a first round defeat with British hopes taking another hit on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

The British No. 2 was outclassed by Tyra throughout the match, who was playing her debut draw of a Grand Slam.

The match hardly lasted over an hour and six minutes until Grant handed Boulter a crushing defeat.

The 18-year-old Italian phenom beat Boulter in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

The day saw Boulter have a bad start as she couldn’t claim a single break point and committed 21 unforced errors; on the contrary, Grant did not face a single break point.

Boulter, with this defeat, became the 11th British player to concede defeat at this year’s Championships.

While on the opening day, all ten Brits in action at Wimbledon lost their matches.

It marks the first time in nine years that British No. 2 Boulter faced defeat in the first round at Wimbledon.

The 29-year-old Boulter was Britain’s main hope of triumph this fortnight after Monday’s 10-player exit with Raducanu and Draper pulling out.

Grant, 18, was trained with Jannik Sinner as a child and with this triumph, she has shown the tennis world that a star has arrived.
