El-Sayed battle Stevens in too-close-to-call Michigan Democratic primary for Senate seat

Michigan Democratic primary just heated up after reports emerged of a tight race between Rep. Abdul El-Sayed and Congresswoman Haley Stevens.

On Tuesday night, August 4, El-Sayed, a former public health official, is in the lead over Congresswoman Stevens.

Michigan State is becoming critical for Democratic Party, as it stands as a lighthouse for regaining control of the Senate in November’s midterm.

According to the latest projections, El-Sayed has secured 49% of the votes polled, while her opponent is trailing behind at 47%, with 81% of the polls counted.

The closely contested Michigan Democratic primary race winner will face the Republican nominee, Mike Rogers in November to replace outgoing Democratic Senator Gary Peters.

With the polls yet to complete, hundreds of anxious El-Sayed supporters have gathered at a watch party at the Majestic Theatre in Detroit as he held a slim single-digit lead over Stevens.

According to multiple U.S. media outlets, the results, Michigan primary results, could arrive a little late if the primary is decided in Wayne County, State’s largest county known for slow vote counts.
