West Ham 'keeping tabs' on Jamie Vardy as Sheffield Wednesday show interest

West Ham United are eyeing Jamie Vardy following reported interest from Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the summer transfer window.

Vardy, 39, was released by Wednesday during his teenage years, long before he became Three Lions' most feared striker.

While playing for Leicester City, Vardy netted 200 goals for the club between 2012 and 2025.

His last assignment was in Italy with Cremonese, where the club suffered relegation from Serie A.

The West Ham were reportedly tracking on Vardy after the club existed in Italy’s top division club league last season, per Sky Sports.

The Hammers, known for retaining higher-wage players, have the leverage to pitch Vardy a deal he can’t refuse.

Vardy, despite touching 40, showed he still has the legs in Serie A with Cremonense, netting seven goals with three assists in 29 league appearances. 

The WHUFC showed interest in Vardy, who is a free agent now after his contract with Cremonese expired following their exit from Serie A.

In June, amid heated transfer news when he was asked about the chances of a Wednesday reunion in an interview by The Yorkshire Post, Vardy’s response says it all.

“In short, no. It’s one of them things, I’ve always said that once I was let go then that chapter was kind of…shut. That’s just me, that’s how I am.

“It wasn’t meant to be so it’s never meant to be, kind of thing,” Vardy responded.

With reports emerging of the Hammers showing interest in Vardy, this could dash any hopes Wednesday fans might have pinned for a reunion.
