‘Superman' star heads to Hogwarts as ‘Harry Potter' season 2 nears

Superman star Nicholas Hoult is heading to Hogwarts for the second season of Harry Potter series.

The actor, who plays Lex Luthor in Superman, is joining the HBO series’ upcoming season as the inept and flamboyant Hogwarts professor Gilderoy Lockhart.

On Tuesday, August 11, HBO Max confirmed the latest cast addition via an Instagram post.

The 36-year-old actor joins the growing star-studded cast of the Harry Potter reboot series as John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall and Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy. Arabella Stanton, Alastair Stout and Dominic McLaughlin star as Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Harry Potter, respectively, completed the lineup.

It is pertinent to note that Hoult’s character has a central role in J.K. Rowling’s second Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

In the book, Lockhart joins the fictional Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts.

He is a charming celebrity in the wizarding world, despite his own shortcomings that occasionally make him less qualified than he tries to appear.

The Harry Potter TV series premieres on HBO Max on December 25.
