Seth Trimble leaves UNC for Louisville after court ruling gives him another year

Seth Trimble, former North Carolina guard, who spent four years with Tar Heels, has agreed to sign with Louisville for 2026-27 season.

Trimble was granted another season after a Colorado district court ruled that made him qualify for fifth college season.

Trimble, a Class of 2022 high schooler, spoke with ESPN's Pete Thamel, saying he considers Carolina “home” and appreciated his time there but that a roster logjam led to him looking to play elsewhere.

The ruling comes amid NCAA passing new rules that set the five-season benchmark for collegiate athletes but left out players who had already finished their eligibility in the 2025-26 season.

Trimble posted career averages of 14.0 points and 3.0 assists per game for North Carolina last season and scored 971 career points in 126 matches over four seasons for the Tar Heels.

Former NC guard Trimble, at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, was ranked as top defensive player last year.

He posted a career best of 30 points against Louisville in February and also hit a game-winning 3-pointer against Duke that same month.
