Kathryn Hahn knows best, and that is that Tangled’s Mother Gothel is one of the most iconic Disney villains to date.

During the D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on Friday, August 14, the studio unveiled the first official look into the upcoming live-action remake of Tangled, starring Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, and Hahn as Mother Gothel.

One clip showed Rapunzel’s iconic long, blonde locks strung across the floor of her tower before the camera panned up to show Croft in full costume as the lost princess.

The next clip showed a cloaked figure stepping out from behind a door into an alleyway. The crowd erupted as the figure was revealed to be Hahn as Mother Gothel.

With Croft and Manheim busy filming in Spain, Hahn presented the highly anticipated project to the attendees at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California.

“Thank you!” the Emmy-nominated actress said as she addressed the crowd. “You were right! I am Mother Gothel: Stunning, hilarious, fab, kind, generous — to a fault. Might be a little overprotective, but that’s because she cares so much.”

The Agatha All Along star continued, “I love Mother Gothel, I love playing her, she’s the best kind of villain. She’s the kind who thinks they’re actually the hero!”

A release date was finally announced during D23 as well. The Tangled live-action film will be released on March 31, 2028.
