UK PM Andy Burnham exchanges texts with impersonator posing as Trump's Chief of Staff Susie Wiles

The United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister Andy Burnham has become a victim of an impersonation scam just weeks after arriving at Downing Street last month (July).

According to Playbook, the 56-year-old Labour Party leader exchanged texts with someone impersonating Donald Trump’s White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. The exact nature of texts have not been revealed; however, the exchange was not of any significance.

When UK authorities learned about the suspicious activity, they also alerted the White House regarding the matter.

A government spokesperson refused to comment on the matter, saying, “We do not comment on national security matters.” The White House has also launched an investigation into the situation.

In an update on Friday, the White House said that it takes the cybersecurity of its staff seriously.

This isn’t the first time that Susie Wiles has been targeted by a cyber attack as her phone was hacked last year and the impersonator sent messages to elected officials, business executives and other prominent figures.

An investigation was launched; however, no arrests have been announced yet.

President Trump, at that time, defended his chief of staff, saying, “They breached the phone; they tried to impersonate her. Nobody can impersonate her. There’s only one Susie.”

The alleged impersonation comes shortly after the UK leader's first interactions with Trump, including discussions over Britain's North Sea energy resources.
