Diamondbacks sideline Ketel Marte after he ghosts team again: what we know

The Arizona Diamondbacks have put Ketel Marte on the restricted list after another unexplained absence.

It’s the second straight season that Marte, who’s an All-Star baseman, went AWOL.

The move comes after Marte was unable to participate in Arizona’s game against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, August 17, 2026.

The franchise seems to scramble for answers even after the game ended.

In a post-match interview, the Arizona manager Torey Lovullo addressed the controversy.

“It’s been a crazy day. All I know is that he’s dealing with a personal issue; we’re just trying to figure that out,” said Lovullo.

“He didn’t show up today, and he was put on the restricted list. That’s as much as I know right now. I’m sure in time, we’ll start to uncover some information,” he added.

The Diamondbacks lost the game 11-1.

Lovullo revealed that he had a conversation with Marte on Monday morning and afternoon in an attempt to know what was wrong with Marte but didn’t get the answers.

Marte traveled with the team to Boston for a match against the Sox.

Marte, last season, was placed on the restricted list when his home was burgled during the All-Star break.

He skipped three games after heading back to his home in the Dominican Republic and later tendered an apology for going AWOL.
