Dreyer issues recall for Outshine Fruit Bars over possible glass contamination

A California-based Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream company has issued a recall for popular frozen fruit bars.

Dreyer’s Ice Cream on Sunday, August 16, issued a recall for a limited number of Outshine Fruit Bars, containing strawberry, watermelon, grape, tangerine and black cherry.

The recalled items were packaged for retailers across America; however, the company maintained that there were no injuries reported.

The company issued a statement on Sunday, August 16, and advised consumers who had purchased the recalled items to dispose of them immediately or take them back to the retailer for a full refund.

The statement noted other products have not been impacted by the contamination of glass.

“We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality and to earning the trust of our consumers and customers every day,” the company stated.

In addition to a complete refund, the company has urged the public to contact a healthcare provider if they experience an injury.

Glass contamination is viewed as a serious health concern because glass pieces can be difficult to detect by sight or touch.

Once embedded in frozen food, raising the risk of cuts to the mouth, throat or digestive tract if swallowed.
