Cardi B gets real about life in the spotlight

Cardi B revealed the cost of fame while sharing a few words of wisdom for those just starting their journey in the spotlight.

The Bodak Yellow hitmaker got candid about celebrity pressures in the new interview, revealing that life in the spotlight isn’t always as glamorous as it seems.

The rapper, whose real name is Belcalis Almánzar, said she feels proud of proving people wrong and accomplishing things others had not, but admitted that the pressure of being famous can be overwhelming.

“That’s why they say to be careful about what you wish for because you just might get it,” she admitted. “Being a celebrity comes with a lot and sometimes I feel I didn’t apply for this.”

“You can’t really protect yourself,” Offset’s ex added. “You are never gonna be ready for this type of pressure, you know?”

She explained that fame comes with constant public attention and a level of pressure that is difficult to prepare for.

The 33-year-old artist noted that despite dreaming of becoming successful, she sometimes feels as though she “didn’t apply” for the reality of celebrity life.

“You just gotta find a mechanism that works for you [to help deal with the fame]. But whatever mechanism you decide on, just don’t turn to drugs, okay?” she warned. “I know it’s hard. I know it really is. Being famous is almost like a mental game but whatever you do, just don’t do drugs.”

During her Vogue Arabia‘s September issue, Cardi described being famous as a mental challenge and acknowledged that people need healthy ways to cope with its demands.
