Taylor Swift faces brutal backlash on her 2025 chart topper album

Taylor Swift is facing backlash on something she never knew would be a topic of hatred.

The singer-songwriter released the latest album, which was chart topper, The Life of a Showgirl in October 2025 and it became an instant hit with track The Fate of Ophelia topped the Billboard 100.

The remaining tracks filled the subsequent positions consecutively, including Opalite, Elizabeth Taylor, Father Figure, Wood, Wih Lit, Actually Romantic, The Life of a Showgirl (feat. Sabrina Carpenter), Eldest Daughter, CANCELLED!, Ruin the Friendship, and Honey.

With 100% success rate, still the album failed to impress some, initiating a thread debate on Redditt asking, “The Life of a Showgirl is not nearly as bad as everyone says it is.”

The description of the question claimed: “It's coming up on almost a year of TLOASG, and I still cannot understand the absolutely outrageous, visceral hatred this album inspired in people… Some fans act as though this album was an affront to god. Was this her best album? No, not at all. Was it bad? Also no.” It further added: “In fact, when it first came out… I was shocked when I came online and saw not just the MAGA/N*zi/eugenics allegations, but also just the people saying all the songs were terrible.”

The thread claimed that, It's not my favourite album of hers by any means (that would be a tossup between Red, Midnights, and TTPD), but I still cannot wrap my head around the persistent negativity regarding Showgirl.”

The thread invites commenters after not understanding the downvoting for the album.

Giving the point of view node of confirmation, one mentioned: “Personally, this is the first album of hers where none of the songs made it onto my playlist. I just don’t really connect with any of it and find some lyrics pretty weak or cringe but I don’t overthink it.”

“I think it’s definitely fair to say the negative response was largely due to expectations that weren’t met,” added another.

Third chimed in with quite neutral stance, trying to understand what really went wrong with the album. “As someone who doesn't think TOLAS is a good album, I by no means think it was so bad it should be universally acknowledged as a ‘bad’ album, but I also don't understand why anyone wouldn't be able to comprehend somebody not liking it either.”

However, any of these comments or questions have no reaction by Taylor Swift.
