Fi recalls dog supplements over Salmonella contamination risk: See lot number

New York-based pet supplement company Fi has issued a voluntarily recall for its "Calming supplement or Dogs" and "8-in-1 formula supplement for Dogs" after an ingredient supplied to the manufacturer tested positive for the bacteria, the FDA confirms.

The lot numbers for recalled products are 26118, UPC 8 50064 80011 1 for Fi Calming supplement for Dogs 180g and 26519, UPC 8 50055 11168 4 for Fi 8-in-1 Formula supplement for Dogs 180g.

These supplements were available for direct consumer purchase and through online retailers like Amazon and Chewy. The company has put a halt to the manufacturing process pending further investigation.

Salmonella is dangerous for the health of both pets and humans. Infected pets may experience signs such as lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Healthy pets can be carriers of the bacteria.

Humans who handle contaminated products or infected animals' feces may experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever. In some cases, Salmonella infection may cause severe complications including artery infection, heart infection, and joint pain.

People who have bought one of these lots of supplements need to stop using them right away and throw the product away safely. Moreover, the FDA advises consumers to sanitize all areas that may have been exposed to these supplements.

If you notice any of these signs in your pet after it has eaten the contaminated supplement, you should inform your veterinarian about it. Human consumers who experienced symptoms after handling the product should visit a doctor.
