Norway royals honour Prince William, Princess Anne with noble gesture

The Royal Family of Norway were joined by dignitaries and royals from across the world to bid a final farewell to the late King Harald V at the funeral held at Oslo Cathedral on Wednesday.

King Charles was being represented Prince William, as per royal tradition, and Princess Anne was in attendance to support her godson the new king, Haakon, during the ceremony. Harald V was the second cousin once removed for Charles and Anne, hence the day held personal significance for the royals.

Owing to that personal connection, the British royals received a special nod from the Norway’s Royal Family following the funeral procession.

The Palace shared a photo on social media to acknowledge and appreciate the attendance from William and Anne for the sombre occasion.

This was also the first time Haakon VIII met Prince William as Norway’s monarch after spending years together as heirs to their respective thrones. Otherwise, the two had appeared together on numerous occasion and events together.

After the royals walked behind the coffin, they later offered their condolences to the family. Anne was seen making conversation with her godson Haakon and she comforted him. She also offered a heartfelt gesture to the grieving widow Queen Sonja followed with a tender greeting to Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra.

Prince William followed behind, offering his own condolences to the family, notably touched by their gesture.
