Princess Astrid mourned by Norway's leaders signing Palace book of condolences

Norway is continuing to mourn Princess Astrid, with senior figures from the country’s leadership paying their respects at the Royal Palace following the death of the much-loved royal at the age of 94.

The Norwegian Royal House shared photographs showing the President of the Storting, the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice signing the official condolence protocol at the Palace.

Members of the public have also been invited to share their own tributes through an online book of condolences, giving people across Norway and beyond the opportunity to leave a final message for Astrid. 

The digital protocol will remain open until after her funeral, with messages published alongside the sender’s name before being archived by the Royal Court.

Princess Astrid died peacefully on 11 September, just two days after attending the funeral of her younger brother, King Harald V. 

Her death came at a poignant moment for the Norwegian Royal Family, following the King's death on 28 August after more than three decades on the throne.

The princess was the eldest surviving child of King Olav V and Crown Princess Märtha and played an important role in Norwegian public life for decades.
