Princess Ingrid Alexandra offers Queen Sonja tender gesture at Ris Church

Norwegian Royal House shared a poignant tribute on Instagram following the Princess Astrid's funeral.

“Today, Princess Astrid was laid to rest at Ris Church in Oslo,” the caption read.

The post confirmed that King Haakon, Queen Mette-Marit, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Queen Sonja attended the service alongside Princess Astrid’s closest family.

Ingrid Alexandra stayed close to her grandmother, Queen Sonja, as the family gathered on Wednesday. 

She offered a quiet gesture of support for her grandmother, extending her arm towards her as they arrived together.

There was also a jewellery connection to her grandmother. She appeared to wear the diamond heart pendant that Sonja gave her as a christening gift in 2004.

The pendant, suspended from a delicate strand of pearls, features a ruby at its centre and was also worn by the Crown Princess at King Harald’s funeral earlier this month.

Princess Astrid died just days after attending her brother Harald’s funeral on 9 September.
