San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa, who suffered a calf injury on Thursday, September 24, has been ruled out for multiple weeks.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Bosa will miss multiple weeks, saying, “We can’t say exactly, but I’m guessing around a few weeks.”

David Bonilla, who interviewed Shanahan for 49erswebzone.com, added, “Losing Bosa was rough yesterday. I mean, losing six out of the 10 D-linemen in the last two weeks that have made our team is a little unusual. I don’t think I’ve been a part of that, so that has been different.”

Bosa was warming up prior to the walkthrough when he injured his calf.

The 49ers are favouring to pick Bosa on IR in part because they are running out of room for players to be brought back, as per an ESPN report.

Under the league rules, teams are limited to eight players designated to return from Injured Reserve (IR) during the regular season.

The 49ers already have several players on IR who it plans to return to the roster.

Bosa, who came back to play after suffering from a torn ACL in his right knee last season, played 70 plays over the first two games.

He got a knee injury in Week 3 last season in a game against the Cardinals, almost exactly a year ago.

The 49ers have been hit hard by injuries in the defensive line, as rookie defensive end Romello Height, who underwent hand surgery, will miss Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.
