Neil Patrick Harris, Julianne Hough to star in 'Damn Yankees' broadway revival

Neil Patrick Harris and Julianne Hough will lead a new Broadway revival of Damn Yankees, marking the classic musical's first Broadway return in more than 30 years. 

The production, announced Sunday at a Yankees game, will begin previews March 24, 2027, at the Marquis Theatre, with an official opening night set for April 20, ahead of the following season.

Harris, a Tony and five-time Emmy winner, will play Applegate, the devil-in-disguise at the center of the musical's Faustian bargain, while Hough makes her Broadway musical debut as Lola. 

Austin Scott, known for originating the title role in the Hamilton national tour, rounds out the cast as Young Joe. 

Tony winner Sergio Trujillo, who previously helmed the show's sold-out Arena Stage run, directs and choreographs this newly reimagined production, which resets the story's action during the New York Yankees' early-2000s championship run rather than its original 1950s setting.

Damn Yankees, based on the novel The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant by Douglass Wallop, first debuted on Broadway in 1955, winning seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, and was last revived in 1993 with Jarrod Emick, Bebe Neuwirth and Victor Garber.
