British broadcaster Piers Morgan, who is taking Prince Harry's uncle Earl Spencer to task for another 'lie' even after issuing an apology over claims in his Diana memoir 'Swan Song', has now turned his fire on Portugal for handing Cristiano Ronaldo's legendary No.7 shirt to Rafael Leao.
Portugal had confirmed that Leao will wear Ronaldo’s No.7 shirt against Denmark and Norway.
It comes after Ronaldo’s decision to abruptly walk out on the national team amid reports he grew frustrated with a lack of minutes under head coach, Jorge Jesus.
Reacting, Morgan, in a post on X, branded the decision as disgusting and shameful.
"After everything @Cristiano has done for Portugal, why the hell are they treating him like this? Yesterday was his father’s birthday, and he played for his country the day after his dad died,” Morgan wrote.
He went on, “Shameful to see this shocking disrespect for their greatest player.”
Leao had already expressed happiness after he was handed Ronaldo’s No.7 shirt by Portugal, revealing that the Al-Nassr forward is his role model.
Morgan's message comes after he schooled Harry's uncle for his "latest lie", saying Charles Spencer's public apology isn't enough, adding that he's still pursuing legal action over what he calls defamatory passages in the memoir even after Spencer acknowledged a factual error and apologised.
"He's published an egregious defamatory lie about me, and that lie remains in copies of the book being sold all over the world, including the United States."
"Although he's rushed out an apology and admitted that it was completely untrue what he said about me, he hasn't removed it from the book," Morgan told Fox News Digital.
