Tony Romo, a longtime CBS analyst and former Cowboys quarterback, and the network have parted ways following the former’s DUI arrest in July.
Romo was arrested during a traffic stop in Milwaukee on July 23, 2026, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI).
The network in a statement on Friday, October 2, said, “CBS Sports and Tony Romo have mutually agreed to part ways." We thank Tony for his contributions over the past nine years and wish him the best moving forward.”
While Romo said he wanted to take a break and focus on his health and family life, adding, “I approached my role as a game analyst the way I’ve approached everything in life, with a desire to win and be the best that I can be.”
Soon after Romo's arrest, the network placed him on an indefinite leave.
He pleaded no contest in an early September hearing and had expressed hopes of a comeback to the network.
But all hopes were dashed when the network hired former NFL star J.J. Watt as a replacement, promoting him to their lead broadcast team next to play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz for the rest of the season.
